When I graduated high school, my family basically pushed me out onto the street.
They were absolutely ready for me to grow up and be a full adult, without their help.
At the time, I didn’t know much about the world and I thought that it was necessary to obtain an expensive college degree. I enrolled in the local University and completed a four-year degree in a business major. I thought that I was doing the right thing but I didn’t know much about the working world. It turns out, I’m not a great candidate for sitting at a desk from 9 to 5 everyday. When I got my first job out of college, I hated it. There was nothing as miserable as sitting in one seat all day long and staring at a computer screen. I realized how much I actually enjoy working with my hands and what a mistake I had made jumping into this miserable career. 2 months after graduating from college, I enrolled in trade school. I decided to become a certified Heating and Cooling technician in 1/3 of the time that it took me to get my first degree. The Heating and Cooling technician program offered at my local trade school was top of the line and featured many high-tech ventilation solutions. Within 18 months I was ready to enter the HVAC industry is a professional certified Heating and Cooling specialist. I’ve been happily working at a heating and cooling company ever since. I wish that I had saved myself time and money by going directly to trade school, but I’m glad to be in the right career now.
